The problem was never visibility. It was what visibility was built on.
Thirty years of sharper dashboards ran on the same incomplete supplier data underneath them. Build the foundation first: suppliers connected and compliant, exceptions caught as they happen, performance scorecarded so they stop repeating. See what retailers, grocers and distributors across the SPS network are already doing.
The real cost of suppliers you can’t rely on
Suppliers who aren't fully ready
Across thousands of buying organizations, average supplier compliance sits at just 42.8%. Late confirmations, mismatched quantities, and discrepancies caught days later, if caught at all, cost a representative $800M retailer $960K-$3.8M a year.
Exceptions you catch too late
Promotions launch into gaps nobody saw. A missing ASN or a late acknowledgment surfaces at the dock, not before it, turning into a stockout, a chargeback, or a customer who quietly switches to a competitor.
Problems that keep repeating
The same supplier mislabels the same way. The same lane runs late in the same season. Without a dollar amount attached to each failure — by supplier, by SKU — there’s no benchmark to hold anyone accountable, and nothing about that changes.

Relationship Management
The foundation. Get every supplier aligned, compliant, and onboarded, so the data everything else depends on can finally be trusted before the next order ships. See how it works.
Visibility Management
Act on the exception now. See every active PO and every data gap as it happens, across every team that depends on it, including the merchandising calendar, before it becomes a missed promotional window. See how it works.
Performance Management
Stop it from repeating. Network-benchmarked scorecards and cost-of-failure data show suppliers exactly what repeat exceptions cost, so the same mistake doesn't happen twice. See how it works.

A clear path to a higher-performing supply chain
The proven methodology powered by SPS solutions.
Establish Expectations
Make sure every supplier understands the rules for doing business with you, one vendor guide, one place to find it, aligned across every business unit. Our Supply Chain Assessment reviews your vendor guide against industry benchmarks, then builds the plan to drive adoption.
Learn MoreReady & Enable
Prepare suppliers and internal teams to meet those expectations, with the technology to automate item setup, ordering, shipping, invoicing and sales data sharing. Relationship Management segments your supplier base and runs targeted, 1:1 enablement with a named advisor.
Learn MoreAdoption & Alignment
Confirm expectations are being used and the data flowing through them can be trusted, a missing ASN or a late acknowledgment caught in hours, not weeks. Visibility Management surfaces order and shipment exceptions in real time, while the fix is still cheap.
Learn MoreMonitor & Measure Performance
Track how suppliers and internal teams perform over time, not just in the moment. Performance Management delivers scorecards, automated and manual detections, and chargeback management, turning recurring exceptions into fixed patterns.

Frequently asked questions
What does SPS Commerce do?
SPS Commerce operates the retail industry’s largest supply chain network, connecting retailers, grocers and distributors with their suppliers to automate order, inventory and item data exchange. On top of that, SPS Commerce adds execution tools: supplier onboarding, real-time order visibility, and performance scorecarding, plus AI built on the same trusted data.
Is SPS Commerce just an EDI provider?
SPS Commerce started with EDI, still the most widely adopted way to move supply chain data between trading partners. We also support XML, JSON, flat files, and API-based integrations. The format matters less than what it powers: real-time visibility, supplier scorecarding, AI, replenishment, and demand forecasting across the network.
Does this require replacing my ERP, WMS or TMS?
No. Visibility and Performance Management run on the data already flowing through your ERP, WMS and TMS. Relationship Management complements that stack as an enablement and onboarding service, driving supplier adoption of the systems you already have, not asking you to replace them.
What ROI can I expect from the Supply Chain Performance Suite?
Forrester’s Total Economic Impact study of SPS Commerce found a 360% return on investment over three years, a payback period under six months, and a 5% reduction in stockouts for a composite retail organization.
Why hasn't visibility software already solved this?
Thirty years of dashboards and control towers were built on the same incomplete, unverified supplier data underneath them, so the view got sharper while the foundation stayed weak. Fixing that means building supplier compliance first, then visibility and performance on top of it, not buying another window.
Is my supplier data secure, and do I own it?
Yes. SPS infrastructure is AWS-hosted with encryption-at-rest, DLP, firewall, and IDS/IPS protection, and SPS holds ISO/IEC 27001, SOC 1 Type 2, SOC 2 Type 2, and PCI DSS certifications. SSO is supported via SAML. Your data is yours: SPS exposes raw transaction data through APIs, not just a browser view, so it flows directly into your BI tools and data lake without lock-in.
