Logistics company exceeds B2B expectations with SPS for 3PLs
Integrating the SPS for 3PLs solution was the key for Jay Group to meet complex retailer compliance requirements, scale faster and enable seamless onboarding for B2B clients.

The challenge:
As Jay Group expanded from eCommerce to B2B customers, they faced challenges with handling complex business requirements like shipping label compliance and new partner onboarding due to time-consuming manual processes.
The solution:
SPS for 3PLs
The result:
Integrating Jay Group’s business systems with SPS automated solutions keeps their labels and packing slips continuously updated and in compliance, decreases errors and speeds up onboarding for improved customer service and better relationships.
The challenge
Jay Group is a leading U.S.-based 3PL provider specializing in dual coast order fulfillment, specialty packaging and warehousing services.
Privately held and family-operated for over 60 years, Jay Group delivers scalable, tech-enabled logistics solutions across industries—and has been recognized on the Inc. 5000 list as one of America’s fastest-growing private companies.
As the company grew from best-in-class eCommerce solutions to high-volume B2B distribution, they realized they could benefit from expert guidance and modern solutions to meet the specialized needs of top national retailers.
While drop-shipping eCommerce orders was a relatively straightforward process, when it came to the demands of B2B, it was difficult to understand and meet the varying compliance standards of each retailer using their existing processes.
Manually printing labels or working through the process of using labels that were sent to them was a time-consuming and labor-intensive process, eating up staff time for hours at a stretch. From gathering the information needed for each PO, to manually printing, sorting and preparing shipments, it could take a full work day to complete, with high potential for errors along the way. The risk of mislabeling or shipping delays threatened customer relationships and could result in costly chargebacks.
Adding new customers also brought new complexities. While one retailer required a specific label and a particular way to have the pallet shipped and labeled, other retailers had their own set of requirements. While trial and error may have worked as a startup, as an industry leader, Jay Group knew they needed to level up.
“Rather than playing catch-up, Jay Group embraced innovation,” said Scott Chamberlain, Senior Director Sales and Marketing at Jay Group. “We saw this shift as a chance to future-proof our operations and meet the growing demands of our clients with confidence.”
The solution
Their first goal was to figure out how to achieve compliance and eliminate the need for manual label printing. It just made sense to look for an expert partnership for guidance, which is when SPS Commerce became involved. With an eye on retailer depth and familiarity with their WMS, they chose to implement SPS for 3PLs, which seamlessly integrated with Manhattan WMS via API to automate their processes.
“We were looking for the best opportunity,” said Nicole Davis, Onboarding Project Manager at Jay Group. “It’s really helped everyone that it’s integrated…it allows our team to spend their time doing other things that are more important than sitting there waiting for thousands of labels to print out.”
The level of collaboration has been strong from the start. Jay Group holds weekly calls with SPS and stays in regular communication via email to align on upcoming retailer integrations and ongoing initiatives. This close partnership ensures smooth execution, responsiveness and continued momentum.
The results
Automating their processes with SPS has freed up time for both Jay Group and their clients.
Before using SPS, creating and prepping orders was a multi-hour, manual process for every PO. While some tasks—such as coordinating shipment routing with retailers and generating BOLs—still require manual input, the majority of the workflow is now digitized and streamlined, saving up to eight hours per order.
From a customer perspective, clients no longer need to handle order data, generate case labels or wait for printing. Compliance is near-perfect. “Nothing is 100%, but I’d say 99% accurate,” said Davis. “I haven’t heard of any chargebacks for incorrect labeling since integration.”
These improvements have helped cut chargebacks by an estimated 75% while accelerating onboarding. New retailer integrations now take about six weeks—a timeline that was once measured in months.
Empowered by SPS solutions, Jay Group is not simply adapting to B2B demands—they’re leading the way.
With a dedicated B2B team and scalable systems, they’re now attracting high-growth brands that need omnichannel fulfillment across D2C and B2B.
The knowledge you provide helps us serve our clients better and grow faster. It’s not just about label compliance. It’s about creating a system that gives clients confidence in every shipment, every time.
