Community Guidelines
Expert Exchange is a professional Q&A community for supply chain, EDI, and retail compliance professionals. These guidelines ensure a respectful, helpful environment for everyone.
Last updated: April 6, 2026
1. Purpose & Scope
Expert Exchange exists to help suppliers, buyers, and compliance professionals share knowledge about EDI, deductions, retail compliance, and supply chain operations. These guidelines apply to all content posted on Expert Exchange, including questions, answers, comments, and user profiles.
By using Expert Exchange, you agree to follow these guidelines. Violations may result in content removal, warnings, or account restrictions as described in the Enforcement section below.
2. Expected Behavior
- Be respectful and professional. Treat all community members with courtesy, regardless of their experience level or background.
- Stay on topic. Questions and answers should relate to supply chain, EDI, retail compliance, deductions, or related business operations.
- Provide helpful, accurate information. Back claims with sources or personal experience when possible.
- Use clear formatting. Write in complete sentences, use code blocks for EDI segments, and break complex answers into sections.
- Vote thoughtfully. Upvote helpful content and downvote content that is incorrect or unhelpful — not content you personally disagree with.
- Search before asking. Check if your question has already been answered to reduce duplicates.
3. Prohibited Content
The following types of content are not permitted on Expert Exchange. Content that violates these rules may be removed, and the author may face account restrictions.
Spam
Unsolicited commercial content, promotional links, repetitive posts, or content posted solely to drive traffic to external sites. This includes undisclosed affiliate links and automated content.
Offensive or Harmful Content
Harassing, hateful, threatening, or discriminatory language targeting individuals or groups based on race, gender, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or any protected characteristic. This includes bullying, doxxing, and personal attacks.
Copyright Violations
Unauthorized reproduction of copyrighted material, proprietary documentation, or trade secrets. Brief quotations with attribution for commentary purposes are generally acceptable under fair use.
Off-Topic Content
Content not relevant to supply chain, EDI, retail compliance, or business operations. Personal opinions unrelated to professional topics, political commentary, and social media-style posts.
Duplicate Content
Identical or substantially similar questions that have already been answered. Please search before posting. Moderators may close duplicates and link to the original question.
Low-Quality Content
Posts with minimal effort: single-word answers, incomprehensible text, or questions that lack enough detail for anyone to provide a useful answer. "Thanks" or "me too" comments that don't add value.
Confidential Information
Do not share confidential retailer portal credentials, internal pricing data, non-public API keys, or any information covered by NDA or confidentiality agreements.
4. Reporting Content
If you see content that violates these guidelines, you can report it using the Report button available on every question, answer, and comment. When reporting, please:
- Select the most appropriate reason category
- Provide a brief description explaining the issue
- Submit one report per piece of content (duplicate reports slow down review)
All reports are reviewed by our moderation team. You will not be notified of the outcome to protect the privacy of all parties involved, but rest assured every report is reviewed.
5. Enforcement
Violations are addressed through a graduated system of consequences. Moderators consider the severity and frequency of violations when determining the appropriate response.
| Level | Action | Typical Trigger |
|---|---|---|
| Warning | Content may be removed; user receives a notification explaining the violation | First minor violation (off-topic, low quality, minor duplicate) |
| Content Restriction | Temporary restriction on posting new content (7-30 days) | Repeated minor violations or a moderate violation (spam, persistent off-topic) |
| Account Suspension | Temporary ban from all Expert Exchange activity (7-90 days) | Serious violation (harassment, copyright) or repeated moderate violations |
| Permanent Ban | Permanent removal from Expert Exchange | Severe violations (threats, doxxing, illegal content) or repeated suspensions |
6. Appeals
If your content is removed or your account is restricted, you have the right to appeal the decision. In compliance with the Digital Services Act (DSA) Article 20:
- You will receive a notification explaining the specific content affected, the reason for the action, and the applicable guideline.
- You may submit an appeal within 30 days of the moderation action.
- Appeals are reviewed by a different moderator than the one who took the original action, where possible.
- You will be notified of the appeal outcome.
