Retail Insight snippets: Top 3 sources of competitive advantage

by | Mar 19, 2018

From Retail Insight Australia, 2018, commissioned by SPS Commerce from Roy Morgan Research:

The three main sources of competitive advantage for all companies are seen to be powerful brand, exclusive brand name products and supply chain efficiency. Retailers are the only group which sees differentiated customer service as the second most important source of competitive advantage, in between powerful brand and exclusive brand name products. Customer service, as a driver to satisfaction and loyalty, has amped in retail as e-commerce companies including The Iconic, Pet Circle, and Showpo, leverage web activity and sales history data to deliver highly personalised offers – with traditional retail generally trailing.

Overall, respondents’ top three priorities for 2018 include:

  • Growing e-commerce sales
  • Discovering unique product offerings
  • Streamlining fulfilment
